Wow. I don’t know about you, but March flew by for me. Whenever I am launching a new product, I get laser focused on all the layers of the launch and tend to miss out on what’s moving by around me. That has been March for me. I launched my Calm Corner Kit last week and have been so blessed to see it starting in your homes. (more on that later)

I am also very happy to see that Spring is officially here. I created a new Spring playlist which we’ve been vibing to, and I switched out our kids books to a Spring bookshelf.

Last month I switched some of my skin care to try Good Molecules retinol + hyaluronic acid combo and I really like how my skin feels these days! I’m a big fan of Korean skin care because of how clean it leaves my skin and also because it is affordable!

In the spirit of Spring’s arrival, I got this Spring puzzle to work on. Sunday’s have become my days for turning on an old record, pouring some tea in a seasonal mug, and working on a puzzle. My kids love to come and help (and/or steal some of the pieces 🤪).

As we get ready for Easter in just two weeks, I love this Natural Egg dye option for dyeing Easter eggs. I shared a recent post on everything I’m putting in my kids’ Easter baskets. I like to keep it simple with a few things the like and a few things they need. These personalized baskets add a special touch and I could see the kids using these for years to come. As well as, these sweet personalized stuffed bunnies! How precious.

I joined ’s book club for the Artists Way and we are making our way through this book as a group together. This is my first time even joining a book club, let alone on Substack of all places, and I see so many benefits to it. I’m tempted to host one of my own! Every other week we meet together and talk about the chapter and I gain so much insight from those who share. On the book itself, I just love how the author gives practical steps to unlocking your creative genius. A must read for any creative!

I also began ready The Wonder of Boys after having some heated debates recently on the difference of raising girls and boys. Since I just started it, I don’t feel I have read far enough into it to give a full review yet. However, I will say that my eyes have been opened to a lot of new perspectives on raising boys and I would encourage anyone to check it out! (especially parents of boys)

Last month I shared how we started using a House Menu to plan out our menus for the week and it has helped me SO MUCH with decision fatigue. I’m switching out our Winter Menu to our Spring Menu and you can find the editable printable I used here.

For our entry way, I layered this egg wreath over this dried floral wreath and it’s so beautiful in person! I can’t believe I found these both at Target. I also picked up some plant pots, paints, and seeds that I plan on putting in my kid’s Easter baskets. I thought it could be a fun activity for us to do together.

In search of joy lately, I started a notes tab where I list random joys from the day:

Last week, I launched my Calm Corner Kit, which I have been developing for 4 years. When I first became a mom, I thought I was failing every time my toddler had a tantrum. Then I learned about a calm corner and how to use it as a safe space for big emotions to land. Simply put, a Calm Corner is a space with a few tools, posters, and comforting items to help your 2-5 year old identify and learn how to navigate their emotions.

I created one when both my girls were younger and recently for my son as well. I’ve tried a lot of different techniques and from that experience created a Calm Corner Kit that includes the best things that worked for us. This February is the most perfect month of all months. It starts on a Sunday and ends on a Saturday. Smack dab in the middle of it begins the Lunar New Year which ushers in the Year of the Horse. (While I’m aware the horse symbolizes many things like energy, passion and change, the little southern girl in me just leaps at the thought of more horses everywhere!) 🐎🐎🐎

I am also excited that the dark wintry days are behind us and we are inching closer toward Spring. This year I decided I will make seasonal goals instead of new year’s goals. I created a Winter Whimsy List and it has been a fun way to guide my rest time with the kids. It has definitely helped me process some harder news which I’ll share more on below.

Over the holidays I switched my kitchen products to Koala Eco. It’s plant-based, kid-safe, and still does the job beautifully. I want to be more intentional about which products I bring into our home but I also don’t want to go overboard. I chose to switch our cleaning products because I noticed I was having headaches with the use my older products. I no longer have them since I made the switch.

Speaking of being intentional, my goal for this column is to share all the joys I’ve found recently. Some of these joys come from habits and others come from items I genuinely love. You’ll find a few affiliate links woven in here. (If you choose to shop through them, it supports my work at no extra cost to you.) I primarily share things I own and have tested along with a few items that are on my wishlist. Like this new speckled line at Target! I have slowly been collecting yellow and blue items for my kitchen over the years and got the blue speckled tray and mug as soon as I saw them! This quilt was another recent Target find that I’ve added to my wish list.

Our rainbow stepping stones are getting a lot of play with the snowstorm we had recently. They are waterproof and we brought them out in the snow to use as mini-sleds. So fun! Even though it's cold outside, I’ve had Spring on my mind and ordered my first Sezane piece (this top) to wear when it warms up. I also discovered these Levi jeans that fit SO GOOD. (They’re under $50 right now! I sized down one size.) I don’t know why I’ve been sleeping on Levi’s. They really do know how to make jeans that fit well and hold their shape!

Over the course of this past year I have embraced reading more fiction and I’ve really enjoyed Elin Hilderbrand’s series all set in Nantucket. We made a quick dash to the library and I grabbed Winter Storms right before the snowstorm hit and it was a great read to accompany all our downtime. I gave it 3 stars because out of the books I’ve read from Elin Hilderbrand, this one was not bad but not great. I love how she describes the food and culture of Nantucket, but the characters in this series don’t interest me as much. This is the middle of a 4-part series, so I need to go back and read the other two for more context.

I started reading The Body Teaches the Soul over winter break and couldn’t put it down. This author wrote one of my favorite parenting books of all time called Habit of the Household. This is his most recent release. It started strong and I underlined almost every page of the first half, but the second half of the book was less intriguing for me. It did not carry the same delivery as the first half. Overall, I would read it again, but just for the parts that I underlined in the beginning.

Whenever my husband travels for work, I try to have some sort of “treat” for myself to look forward to after a long day of solo parenting. (Yes, I am 100% motivated by treats.) Sometimes it’s a nice glass of wine or dark chocolate, but I’ve had to cut all of those things out for health reasons recently. So I shifted to trying a new hobby. I was scrolling through Pinterest one day and when I saw this beautiful shell necklace online for over $200, I knew I had to try and make it. I ended up making these two necklaces for only $15 worth of supplies. I wonder…what should I make next?!

I am also bringing back the Kidcuterie Board.

This has been my go-to when I need to feed the kids but don’t want to spend all day in the kitchen. I fill my speckled tray full of snacks and protein and let them graze from it lunch to dinner. It helps curb the “can I have a snack” question from popping up every 5 minutes and my kids tend to snack on healthier items when I have it in a tray like this.

The new year began heavier than I expected when I lost a dear friend to cancer. She’s a beautiful soul with two kids and I’ve known her since we were barely teenagers ourselves. Grieving her stirred a deeper awareness of my own mortality, something I wasn’t quite prepared for.

Four days into the new year I found myself at urgent care thinking I was having a heart attack. I had been experiencing chest pressure and a racing heart for weeks, but when a sharp pain shot down my arm, I knew I needed to be seen. Thankfully, my EKG came back normal, and I wasn’t having a heart attack. My cardiologist believes the symptoms may be related to stress and acid reflux, which has led me to make some changes to my diet and lifestyle. I’m wearing a heart monitor for the next two weeks and will be doing a stress test to rule out anything underlying. With a family history of heart conditions, I’m remaining cautiously optimistic that these are all signs my body is trying to tell me to slow down and care for my health more. This hot water bottle has been comforting to have for pain relief and keeping warm. I’ve also returned back to yoga practices and feeling my strength return with more practice.

The kids have been asking a lot of questions around my health and fatigue lately. I’e sought out some calmer activities to do together, like reading together and painting watercolor crafts. I also refreshed our morning basket. This month for our Morning Basket time we are using activities from my monthly activities kit. We’re getting ready for Valentine’s Day using my monthly activities and it has been a joy!

November is feeling more and more like pre-December these days. I want to savor the beauty of Fall and reflect on how it symbolizes the changes of seasons we go through, but I also feel this pull to plan and prepare for a holiday season that I can then rest in.

I was talking with my husband the other day (whom we joking call the Grinch) about when is the “right time” to feel the magic of Christmas. He stands with the no Christmas till after Thanksgiving crowd & I identify more with the when it feels right crowd. We had a random snow day in Georgia last week, and that prompted me to pull out the decor and hot cocoa. It was magical for me and the kids in the moment, but today it’s 70 degrees and sunny and it feels a little funny to have frosted garland on our mantel. I don’t know what the right time is but I’m thinking it sometime soon.
I’m using November as the month for Christmas crafting & December as the month for Christmas experiencing. We already put up some of our crafts and decor but we’ll wait to get our tree till the weekend after Thanksgiving. That is also when we will start to watch Christmas movies, sing carols, and get more into the spirit of Christmas.

I read most of this book called The Gap and the Gain in one weekend and I think I underlined almost every page of it. This is the most transformative book I have read all year. For a type A achiever like myself, I can’t reccomend it enough! The title/book cover is kind of intense, but the wisdom inside this book is worth every penny!

I also started Austen at Sea. I randomly saw this one on the bookshelf at my local library and it hooked me from the title. I’m a few chapters in and enjoying it so far! Would love for you to join me in reading it, if you’re looking for some new fiction to read.

Tis the season for easy breakfasts and crockpot dinners. One question I get asked a lot is what do I make the kids for breakfast and I’ve always hesitated to answer thinking I wasn’t “doing enough” or “cooking enough” for my kids. The truth is, I don’t make them breakfast. We have a few cereals in containers in the pantry and they help themselves to it every morning. It’s either cereal or yogurt. Simple as that. We do try and stick to healthier alternatives to cereal and I buy them in bulk from Costco or Amazon. Three of our favorite are Magic Spoon Fruity, EnviroKidz Choco Chimps, and Panda Puffs.

Recently we purged over half of our toys & I made a new system for how and what type of toys we will buy in the future. I shared a whole blog post on it, which you can read more here.

Having this new system gives me a lot of peace going into the holidays. I know what type of toys I will buy my kids in the future and I know that it will add to their collection of things they already own and love.

This month for our Morning Basket time we are using activities from my monthly activities kit. Dillon and I have our daily rhythm down now and he’s doing a lot more independent work. I’m excited for what’s ahead!

I took a break from my Joy Of column last month and I truly missed it. Between the kids going back to school, having surgery, and figuring out all our new schedules, I felt like I was spinning too many plates, so I set some down. The challenge for me is that when life gets busy, I tend to set down the things that give me life, and Substack has been one of those things. So October is my chance to pick it back up again. I’m slowing down, and choosing the simple things that bring me joy, like the art of a delicious slow cooker chili and the collection of a good Fall movie playlist for families.

I know it’s early, but I’m already planning/budgeting out for Christmas gifts. We do 2-3 gifts for each child and then one big group gift. I’m eyeing this Air Toobz toy that I’ve read so many great things about! Another gift I’d recommend that is great for all ages is this instant print camera. The kids got these as a gift from their grandparents over the summer and it has become a favorite by all.

I like to keep my fall capsule wardrobe comfy and feminine. These are by-far my favorite jeans that I’ve owned for years. They’re soft and stretchy but don’t lose their shape. I’m also loving this top by Bohme paired with these brown suede shoes.

I got this green ruffle tablecloth to film some holiday content with, but the more I look at it, I feel like it goes well with every season! It’s 100% cotton and such a great price for the quality! I also recently hopped on the bread box train and there’s no turning back. I love the look of this bread box and it can store so much at once! Maybe this will inspire me to get back into bread making again.

Last, but certainly not least, I just discovered this artist and ordered this print by CocoShalom. I love so many of her prints, it was hard to choose just one!

It includes seasonal recipes, Colorado history, and her original watercolor paintings. I also started reading a new-to-me fall fiction book The Simplicity of Cider. I’m a few chapters in and enjoying this read so far! I was looking for a wholesome book with fall vibes and this one reminds me a lot of a Hallmark movie style.

August is the unsung hero of our dreams. It’s the season of change, season of learning, and the season of choosing to let go of old rhythms to embrace new ones. As we enter August, I like to take some time to journal and write down what my hopes are for the rest of the year. A lot of times August-November can feel rushed. It’s hot outside, but everyone is talking about wanting fall. School is back in session and it suddenly feels good to have a daily rhythm again. The stores are filling their shelves with halloween and Christmas decor, while our hearts are trying to process how quickly the year goes by. August can seem like it’s having an identity crisis, but if we slow down, and dream a little, it can be a second chance at the goals we once had back in January— this time we’re a little gentler with ourselves.

My girls have gone back to school and I homeschool preschool with my 3 year old son. A few of my staple items I use repeatedly are this printer, this laminator, and a planner. When researching printers, I fell into a deep hole of comparing prices and reviews and ultimately landed on this one. I don’t know if it’s the best or not, but we’ve had it for a couple years now and I would buy it again if I needed to. It gets the job done and I can print directly from my phone, so that’s a win in my book. Each week I print a few morning basket activity pages to stock our morning basket with. After the girls head out to school, Dillon and I have morning basket time. When he moves on to independent play, I take care of some household chores. Then we get dressed for the day and head out ourselves.

I like to keep my pre-fall style pretty simple. I’m loving this color combo of mauve shorts with a chocolate brown top. Pair it with some brown strappy sandals, gold jewelry, and these blush sunnies and we’re set!

With fall approaching, I have been loving all things western lately! I don’t know if it was my trip to Colorado or me watching the Ralph Lauren documentary, but I’ve been on the hunt for vintage western items like this serving platter, these turquoise napkin rings, this gingham tablecloth, and this candle holder. It all looks so good together!

Tis the season for after school kidcuterie boards! The girls are SO HUNGRY after school, so I like to have something like this set up for them when they get back. I include a few fresh veggies and fruits, along with their favorite chips, etc. I’m also still rocking this 30 minute meal once a week. It’s so great for late summer days!

This summer has been an emotional one. We’ve had a family loss, sickness, and LOTS of transition. I get stressed and overwhelmed easily, but I’m finding simple practices like watercolor painting, and lighting a candle while at the table, to help me slow down and be present.

We start our Morning Basket time with our Morning Menu to talk about the day & weather. We’re including two activity pages per day & switching them out weekly to get back into the rhythm of it.

One of my favorite things about summer is how it helps us slow down and find a new pace. We have been spending the past few weeks in Florida (while my husband works on a project here) and it has been such a gift to switch up our daily routine. I intentionally packed small and had the kids bring a handful of their favorite toys with them so we could look outside of our things and find joy in our surroundings.

I have been learning how to paint with watercolors using this book as a guide and it has been so enjoyable. I paint while my kids do morning basket time and this our new rhythm of creating before consuming.

After a slow morning at home, I look at the clock and it’s 9am. Ahh the beauty of feeling like you’ve accomplished so much with the kids at home only to find it’s been three hours and you have the rest of the day ahead of you. We pack up snacks and head to the pool or the beach to get the wiggles out before it gets too hot in the day. I’m loving this beach cover up for my kids! And my girls have been playing with these sticker books nonstop ever since we got them for our road trip. I will be packing more of these for our next travels.

Last month I switched to this aluminum-free deodorant and I’m never going back to what I had before. The Eucalyptus scent is SO good. I even got my husband to make the switch with me! I also found this affordable retinol body lotion that leaves my skin feeling hydrated after these long summer days. I can’t recommend it enough!

I like to keep my summer style pretty simple. This set from the Gap is my new staple! I love the asymmetrical buttons on this denim top. It’s so chic and comfortable for dressing up or down. These linen blend pants are comfortable and they aren’t see-through which is a win in my book. Lastly I love this hat for a bit of southern flare. You all seem to love it too because it has been my most requested item from last month!

This month’s readings have been less than thrilling, so I’ll keep it short. I read through Redeeming Your Time very quickly searching for inspiration. I did not find anything new or inspiring from this read. So I moved onto a fiction book for the beach called Every Summer After. I am only a few chapters in, so I don’t feel I can offer a true review of it yet. It has been recommended by several others, so I’m excited to dive in!

We’re having fun with fruits this month! I made this Strawberry Lobster using a few strawberries shaped on a plate, and we’ve had watermelon fries on repeat for an afternoon snack. I love watermelon topped with tajin. There’s nothing like it! Plus I can savor a few watermelon slices just for myself because they’re too spicy for the kids.

Last month I was jumping on a trampoline, trying out all my old gymnastics tricks, and I tore my ACL. I am preparing for surgery next month with some prehab exercises to build my quads and glutes. My husband got me this Garmin Lily watch for my birthday and it has been my favorite tool to track my health, sleep, and exercise. I also added Vital Proteins Collagen+Vitamin C to help reduce joint pain and support my health overall.

We’re spending as much time at the pool and beach as we can and I always keep our Tubby Todd mineral sunscreen on hand for the kids. My kids have very fair skin and after 3 weeks of constant time in the sun, I can say this is hands down the best kids mineral sunscreen I’ve tried!

This month we are starting each day with our Summer Morning Basket activities. I love having these activity pages ready to go in the morning, so the kids can get started with something creative while I’m still waking up with my coffee.

This, my friend, is my favorite time of year. The birds are singing, the sun is shining, the kids are vibing, and we have the promise of slower days ahead. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE that I don’t have to spend 4 hours of my day in the car anymore. While it is definitely an adjustment to have the older kids home from school and they’re seeing me work more than they have before, I am grateful for this shift. We have some fun things planned this summer and I’m excited to share it with you!

We’re spending A LOT of time outdoors these days and this travel charcuterie board has been perfect for packing up a lunch to go! We use it at the pool, the park, for picnics, etc. If we’re going out, it’s coming with us! Same with these bug bite patches. They work so well!

For the days we are home, I am refreshing our art cabinet to have a few tried-and-tested washable kids art supplies available. This is something we have worked up to over the years and I adjust the supplies based on how comfortable I feel with the kids using them. For instance, I kept scissors stored away for a long time till we had enough practice using them properly. Same goes for markers. That’s a hard pass for us right now. We do however love having this washable paint set, and painting mats on hand. My 6 and 7 year old just started learning how to draw faces with this Drawing Faces Kit and they are loving it! I also love this Stem Walki-talki set. What a cool way to learn how things work!

I like to keep my summer style pretty simple. Abercrombie has my favorite shorts and I own them in a few different colors. I love to pair them with these sandals that are surprisingly comfortable or these comfy Merrell’s for every day hiking.

I started reading Parent’s Tao Te Ching two months ago and have been slowly making my way through it. Each page is filled with a simple piece of advice that is so profound. While I may not agree with everything said, I do find a lot of wisdom and helpful thinking from it as a whole.

Cradles of Eminence is another old book that is new to me. I just started reading it and I’m SO excited to read more. The research covers the upbringing of several prominent people and what their lives were like. It’s a fascinating read so far.

Life of the Beloved is another gem of a read. I re-read this book in one sitting the other day and it moved me tremendously. I cried. A lot. Especially as I was sitting on a couch hurting from my knee injury and reading his words on accepting our brokenness. I love Henri Nouwen’s honest outlook on faith in general.

Still making lots of kidcuterie board lunches over here, but this time we’re taking it to-go with our travel charcuterie board . I also love making simple sheet pan dinners that take 30 minutes or less to make.

Last week I celebrated my 38th birthday with my family. The week prior I was jumping on a trampoline, trying out all my old gymnastics tricks and landed funny. I haven’t been able to walk much since then and just received word that I tore my ACL. Getting older and feeling broken is not for the faint of heart. Henri Nouwen once said, “I am convinced that healing is so often difficult because we don’t want to know the pain.” And WOW isn’t that the truth. I would much rather ignore or pass quickly through the pain, but I’m learning to accept where I am at as a place for growth. While I’m currently feeling the pressures of time passing, getting older, and physical pain from an injury, I am also feeling hopeful for the healing process that is to come.

In lighter news, we are kicking off summer with Camp Morning Basket next week June 9-13th. This is a cozy, online camp that allows us all to create a morning basket routine at home, with the support of a private community group and a camp guide that I created. I must say, this comes at just the right time. I’m really looking forward to connecting with other moms and getting into our summer rhythm of morning basket time.

May is starting to feel like second Christmas between all the school events, birthday parties, and preparation for summer. 😅 While it can seem very busy, I’m trying my best to add in a few anchors of joy that help me slow down and savor the season I am in.

4 out of of the 5 of us in our family have a birthday over the next month, so I’m stocking up on some fun party supplies that celebrate this season. The kids are finishing up their school year, which means we’re going to be spending a lot more time at home together. I am getting this mud kitchen to add to our outdoor play time & I know the kids will love it! It’s from one of my favorite family-owned brands that I’ve trusted for years with my sensory table. Now we’re adding this mud kitchen to the mix. I’m also loving these mosquito repellent sticks—the woodland scent is my current favorite. Last, but not least are all things linen. Old Navy has been stepping up their game with these cute sets for kids and this lemon linen dress. I’m loving all of it!

I started reading Parent’s Tao Te Ching over Spring Break and have been re-reading some of the same teachings over and over since then. I still have a ways to go with it, but I love how beautiful and reach the teachings are. As a Christian, I find a lot of similarities within these teachings and have been super encouraged to think differently about how I raise my kids in this modern day.

The Little Book of Joy is another cute devotional style book I picked up. It has adorable illustrations in it with an activity per day to try. I don’t think I will actually apply these activities to my daily schedule but it serves as cute table decor for sure!

Monarch Butterfly is a book we re-read every spring alongside our morning basket time. I love pretty much every book written by Gail Gibbons. It’s simple and easy to digest, and the kids love the illustrations.

The hardest lesson I’m learning right now is to know I’m loved outside of the work I do— to slow down and be content with my limits. To be honest, this year has been one of the most challenging years for me personally, and it’s humbled me a lot. Being a SAHM and creating a business online has led to many lonely days. I started to measure my worth by how well my work was doing, and well, I didn't feel like I was measuring up. So I started working more and more till burn out. I’d love to tell you I’m on the other side of it, but that wouldn’t be honest. I’m still working through and learning how to create joy in the midst of hardships I’m facing, but I do find that having moments of stillness at the beginning of my day are giving me strength to take on the days ahead.

In lighter news, we are learning all about butterflies during our morning basket time this month. I got this butterfly growing kit for us to watch the caterpillars transform into butterflies and we’re pairing our May activities with their growth. I must say, this comes at just the right time. Learning about transformation through the eyes of nature is always inspiring.

This month is all about practicality over perfection. One way I’m lessening the load of daily work is by making kidcuterie meals. Think charcuterie board + kids foods. I throw a bunch of random foods onto a tray and call it a meal. The kids are happy and I have less dishes to clean. It’s a win-win for everyone!

What are you looking forward to this month?

Spring is in full swing & I feel like I’m defrosting. I love every season for different reasons, but the best is when the season is just beginning and I dream about what’s ahead. These are a few of my favorite things lately that I am enjoying this month.

I just love all the colors of Spring and how it fills the home with joy! These are a few items I have either used and loved or are adding to my cart for this new coming season.

In February I started three new books, 2 nonfiction and 1 fiction and I just finished all three. “To Have and To Hold” is a book I wish I read when I was in my postpartum season. The author brings so much validation to the mix of emotions we feel as new moms. “10x is Easier than 2x” challenges my thinking in a lot of areas and helps me dream up big goals for the future. Last but certainly not least, “The Five Star Weekend” is an easy non-fiction read. I have loved every book by this author so far and will continue to read more in the summer months!

Our focus for Morning Basket time this month is Easter and birds. We start our day using our Morning Menu to talk about the weather and what to wear. Then we move onto a few activity pages for the day. I love how a Morning Basket creates a rhythm of learning and creativity in our day.

Another change I’m making this month is during mealtimes. Our kids are usually running around and we want to teach them how to remain seated at the table, so we introduced a new game with our candles. We made beeswax candles together and now it’s a reminder for us to stay together while the candles are lit at mealtime.

One of my favorite ways to introduce veggies and new foods to my kids is with a kidcuterie board. I put out a selection of their favorite old and new snacks on a snack board and let them have at it till dinner time.

With all the sickness going around, having my Garmin watch has been crucial.
When I watched my stats dip low (even if I wasn't feeling anything) I took extra vitamins & rest. I was able to track my body’s needs and stay healthy! I also added Cod Liver Oil to our family’s daily supplements. High in Vitamin A, D, and Omega-3!

My newest hobby is learning to watercolor paint alongside my kids during Morning Basket time. This watercolor book has been a great guide & we’re loving our Spring activities included in my new March Activities Pack.
